Life Falling Apart? Learn how to trust God’s plan when it feels impossible.
Life is filled with seasons, some beautiful and others seemingly barren. But regardless of where we find ourselves, one thing remains constant: God’s grace and His unwavering presence in our lives.
I’ve been reflecting on a powerful passage from John 15:1-8, where Jesus tells us, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” This verse reminds us that, just like the branches of a tree need the vine to live and grow, we need Christ at the center of our lives to thrive.
Sometimes, life may feel like everything is being stripped away—whether it’s relationships, jobs, or dreams. But in those moments, when the trees fall, the vines are pruned, and the landscape seems barren, we can be sure that Christ is still the root of our strength. Isaiah 12 is a perfect reminder that even in the darkest moments, God is our salvation. The people of Israel, after walking through a great deliverance, rejoiced in God’s saving grace. They said, “I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord himself is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” In the same way, we must hold onto the truth that Christ is with us in the highs and lows of life.
The Importance of Remaining in the Vine
As followers of Christ, we are often tested in our faith, especially in the moments when everything around us feels like it’s crumbling. It’s easy to feel lost or question our purpose when things don’t seem to go according to our plan. But that’s when we must remind ourselves that God’s plan for us is bigger than anything we can imagine.
Just like a tree needs to be pruned to grow stronger, sometimes we must go through difficult seasons to grow spiritually. It’s in the barren land that God shows us His true power, and when everything else fades away, we see Him clearly. As John 15 teaches, remaining connected to Jesus through faith, prayer, and the Word is what keeps us alive and fruitful. We may not understand the process in the moment, but in hindsight, we will see how God used every season to prepare us for something greater.
Trusting God's Timing
One of the most challenging aspects of the Christian journey is trusting God’s timing. Life doesn’t always go according to our schedule, and that can be hard to accept. I remember a time in my life when I had to wait and trust God in ways I never imagined. It wasn’t easy, but in the waiting, I grew closer to Him. And as I look back now, I realize that the blessings I received came suddenly—and bigger than I could have ever imagined.
In Isaiah 12, we see how the Israelites rejoiced when they were delivered. And we too, must rejoice not just in the blessings that God gives, but also in the waiting. God’s provision is always on time, and it’s often more than we expect. Sometimes He moves suddenly, and those sudden moments can change everything.
Don’t Forget to Bring God with You
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my walk with God is the necessity of bringing Him with me through every season. When life gets good, when blessings overflow, it’s easy to forget about Him. But God warns us in the Bible that if we leave Him behind, we will end up back at square one.
Isaiah 12 teaches us to give thanks to the Lord, to declare His greatness, and to never lose sight of who He is. When we face new blessings and achievements, we need to remember that they came from God and are for His glory. Without Him, we can do nothing. It’s tempting to idolize the things He gives us—whether it’s a new job, a relationship, or even financial freedom. But we must resist that temptation. We need God in our lives not just in the tough times, but in every season.
A Prayer for Those in the Waiting
If you’re in a tough season right now—whether it’s waiting for breakthrough, feeling stuck in a barren land, or questioning God’s purpose in your life—take heart. God has not forgotten you. He’s with you every step of the way.
Let me pray for you:
God, I pray for anyone reading this who may be in a dark place right now. I ask that you would help them let go of the things they’ve been idolizing and bring them back to a place of trust in You. Help them to remain in You, the true vine, and let Your peace flood their hearts. May they find clarity in the fog and continue to hope in the promise of new life and new hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember, God's love for you never changes, and His plans for you are far beyond what you can imagine. Trust in His timing, cling to His promises, and remain rooted in Him. Whatever season you're in, He’s right there with you.
